Creating and managing a multi-device passkey

A multi-device passkey allows you more flexibility in signing in to your NFID account. There are two types of multi-device passkeys:

  • One that’s secured with your device manufacturer, like Apple’s iCloud keychain or Google’s Password Manager
  • One you carry with you, like a YubiKey USB dongle
Multi-device type
Advantages
Disadvantages
Device manufacturer (i.e. Apple, Google, Microsoft)
Convenient
Manufacturer trust
External security key (i.e. YubiKey, Ledger)
Trust only yourself
Harder to manage

We recommend creating a multi-device passkey with the device manufacturer for most people. Our research has given no reason to doubt the security of a passkey stored in the iCloud Keychain or similar manufacturer storage solution.
